Reducing Infant and Maternal Deaths in Zimbabwe

The Rotary Club of Ottawa worked with the Sunnybrook Health Center in Toronto and the Harare Dawn Rotary Club, Zimbabwe, to arrange for the shipment of 32 infant incubators to Harare for installation at the main hospital. These were donated by Sunnybrook and filled three shipping containers and were needed to replace infant incubators lost in a fire.

Poor health conditions in Zimbabwe mean that many infants are born prematurely with breathing problems and these incubators provide support until the infants can breathe on their own.  Several Rotary Clubs, and generous donors, assisted with this project through their financial contributions.  For further information on this work, contact John Lark, Past President, Rotary Club of Ottawa johnlark@mac.com
