Call for Applications for 

ROTARY GLOBAL GRANT SCHOLARSHIP

 

For the Academic Year 2019-2020

The Rotary Club of Ottawa, and Rotary District 7040 will offer one Global Grant Scholarship in the academic year 2019-20.  The successful candidate in this competition will be awarded a non-renewable, one-year scholarship to a maximum of $30,000 USD to pursue studies at the Master’s degree level in one of the six designated areas of study as identified by Rotary International’s Future Vision Plan:

 

1) Peace and conflict resolution/prevention

2) Disease prevention and treatment

3) Water and sanitation

4) Maternal and child health

5) Basic education and literacy

6) Economic and community development

 

RULES OF ELIGIBILITY

 

Scholarships may not be used for studies that are already underway.  Global Grant Scholarship candidates must:

* Have completed an undergraduate degree by the time the scholarship period begins and be entering the first year of a Masters' degree program

* plan to study outside of your home country

* Be a citizen of Canada or the US living permanently within the boundaries of District 7040 

* provide proof of acceptance into the University program of his/her choice for the academic year 2019/2020

* provide a copy of his/her curriculum vitae and at least one letter of reference

* must not be a linear descendant of a Rotarian

* Rotaractors and former youth exchange students are eligible to apply

* Live in the host district during the scholarship year

* Be proficient in the native language of the host country.

 

WHO SHOULD APPLY

 

An ideal Global Grant Scholarship candidate should possess excellent leadership skills and potential; be interested in a field of study that has a direct impact on the humanitarian needs of the world in one of the six areas of focus (as listed above); has demonstrated a personal commitment to community service, has well-defined and realistic goals, maturity and sense of purpose; has concrete ideas as to how he/she will make advances within his/her chosen career field and is sincere about maintaining a relationship with Rotary after the scholarship period.

Initial interviews will be held by the Rotary Club of Ottawa in late March, 2019. Those applicants sponsored by our Club will be interviewed at the Rotary District Level in early May, 2019 to select the successful candidate(s). The location of the interviews will be convenient for the candidates and the interviewers. Candidates must be available in person for the interview although in unusual circumstances, an interview by SKYPE could be arranged with enough advance notice.
