Maternal, Newborn, And Child Health (MNCH): Transforming Indigenous Lives in Guatemala
This four year, $13.2 million initiative is jointly funded by Global Affairs Canada, the NGO Horizons of Friendship (Horizons) and a number of Canadian Rotary clubs.
Horizons is the executing agency in partnership with the Association for Health Promotion, Research and Education (PIES de Occidente) in Guatemala. The project will contribute to the reduction of maternal and child mortality and improve maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) in Guatemala’s predominantly Indigenous Department of Totonicapán. It is expected to benefit over 200,000 Indigenous women, children and men in Guatemala, and 8,680 Canadians engaged directly in public education programming.
The project involves both Midwife training and women’s health workshops and helping to set up a new obstetrical and pediatric critical care unit in the local hospital. The Rotary Club of Ottawa provided a grant of $5000.
