Agnes Zabali Boys & Girls Club - Creating a Sustainable Future

Linda Newton, PhD, FCSCE, PMP

Linda was a member of the first class of women to graduate from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1984.  Following graduation she served as a Construction Engineering Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces in several roles in Base Construction Engineering – now known as asset management.  Her final position was Project Officer on the joint Canada - U.S. project office to reconstruct and modernise the radar sites that had comprised the Distant Early Warning Line in Canada’s Arctic.  She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Carleton University where she has taught infrastructure management since 2005.  She is a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (FCSCE) and a member of the Institute for Asset Management (MIAM).

Linda is a President-elect of the Rotary Club of Nepean-Kanata and a long-time community volunteer.  After ‘retiring’ from full-time employment, she now spends her time teaching English as a Second Language at Michèle Heights Community House and working with the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club (a community project under the Canada-Africa Community Health Alliance) in Kamengo, Uganda.  She is also an avid, although slow, runner and is the driving force behind bringing and event called parkrun to Ottawa.

She loves to travel the path less taken and has over 50 countries and trips under her belt including the Inca Trail, the Lycian Way and Kilimanjaro.  She truly believes in the saying, “it’s not the destination that’s important, it’s the journey.”
